Universitat Leipzig: Aiora Sampedro Alegría

From 26/01 to 01/02, Aiora Sampedro Alegría, teacher and researcher at the University of Salamanca, will be a guest lecturer at the Basque Lectureship at Leipzig University, thanks to the Erasmus+ programme. In addition to collaborating with the Etxepare network lectureship at the Institute of Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, IALT, the guest professor will offer a symposium open to anyone interested.

In her lecture entitled ‘Configuration of the Basque Literary System from the Polisystemic Perspective by Prof. Itamar Even-Zohar’, in the area of literary studies and comparative literature, the speaker will examine the current configuration of the Basque literary system from the polisystemic perspective of Prof. Itamar Even-Zohar. To this end, she will describe the structure of this cultural system based on the Israeli thinker´s research and present the results of her doctoral thesis, in which she quantifies the changes that took place at the beginning of the 21st century.

About Sampedro Alegría

Aiora Sampedro has been a lecturer at the University of Salamanca Since 2018, teaching Basque language and culture. She combines her teaching with her research interests: comparative literature and sociology of literature in relation to Basque literature. She has an undergraduate degree in Basque Studies and a Masters in Comparative and Literary Studies from the University of the Basque Country (UPV-EHU).

Sampedro is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the UPV-EHU as part of the PhD programme in Comparative Literature and Literary Studies. Her doctoral thesis, entitled Sistema literario vasco contemporáneo desde la teoría de los polisistemas: Harkaitz Cano, análisis de caso, examines the evolution of the Basque literary system from a sociological perspective, with particular attention to Professor Itamar Even-Zohar´s polysystemic methodology. This methodology allows her to approach the analysis of market and repertoire trends in contemporary Basque literature.
