In this edition the organization wants to encourage a greater participation of the audience so the voting process has changed. First, from February 8 to 28, the popular vote will take place, and the audience will determine the 30 semifinalists of each category. In a following phase, from March 2 to 14, a professional jury will be in charge of choosing the nominees. The names of the winners will be revealed at the MIN Awards ceremony.

There are 22 categories in total, including the Etxepare Award for the best album in Euskera (Basque language).

The MIN Awards were born in 2009 with the aim of recognizing the artistic creation, cultural diversity, the new talent and the quality of the productions published by the musical SMEs at the state level, as well as to promote the independent music.
