The first concerts of the Euskal Herria Sona festival in Barcelona began at the end of September and, after a brief break and reorganization, the programme will continue starting November 9. Here’s what’s next at the biggest Basque music festival outside the Basque Country.
The Barcelona Euskal Etxea (Basque Center) is the festival’s lead organizer, with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute, among others; and it is Euskal Etxea that will host the first of the concerts and most of the events this time round. On November 9, the stage will be shared by the Tolosa rapper Nikotina and the Barcelona-based band Senyor Oca. On November 15, the Basque rock band Eskean Kristö and the Barcelona Rock Orchestra will meet at the same venue; the latter will reinterpret rock classics with classical music arrangements and instruments.
A week later, on November 22, the Sidecar hall will host the Basque rock band Zea Mays; and on November 23, Bad Sound will get the Euskal Etxea dancing with their dub and reggae style music, together with the Valencian group Maluks. On November 30, the Euskal Etxea will host the bands Trakamatraka and Belatz: the former creates music from recycled objects, with touches of jazz and African music, while the latter plays several types of rock music. Finally, in January (date to be announced) the Basque electro swing band Anita Parker will close the EH Sona programme, with a concert at the Euskal Etxea.
