A window to Basque performing arts is about to open at the Sziget Festival in Budapest, running from 10 to 15 August. Deabru Beltza and Lasala are the two Basque companies featured, with their shows ´Les tambours de feau´ and ´Fight´, respectively. Hungary´s Sziget Festival is one of Europe’s largest music festivals, bringing together the leading names in music and culture over the course of six days across 60 stages.
Directed by Judith Argomaniz, Lasala is an award-winning Basque dance company whose creations are based on a primitive physical language and cutting-edge visual aesthetics. ‘Fight’ is based on the human relationship with struggle, on the primitive bond that has existed since the beginning of time. Lasala presents its take on struggle as a fundamental element in life in general and in dance in particular. The Fidelio Theatre-and-Dance Field will host two performances of ´Fight´, one on 13 August at 4pm and another on the 15th at 5pm.
Deabru Beltzak will present festival-goers with a theatre and music show. Fire, so characteristic of the group, will be on display. With ´Les Tambours de Feu´, the group seeks a relationship with the audience. The performances will take place in the Walkabouts area at 9pm on the 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th.
