Santiago de Compostela, to the rhythms of txalaparta at the opening of Womex

2014/10/23

Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.

The opening ceremony of the WOMEXfair was really crowded yesterday in Santiago de Compostela. A large number of people couldn’t enter to the event as the Galician capital was full of worldwide professionals of the music scene. At the opening: Guitars, bagpipes, hurdy gurdy, pandereitas ... and of course, the txalaparta of Oreka TX.

The bagpiper Xosé Manuel Budiño r led a party inspired in the Camino de Santiago - "Compostela, the roots-the way" - where many artists collaborated: Mercedes Peon, German Lopez, the fado singer António Zambujoo, flamenco-jazz fusion by Jorge Pardo, Germán Díaz, and, of course, Oreka TX representing the  Basque music.

That was the opening of the international meeting that will come to an end on October 26.  Appart from Oreka Tx, the Basque groups Korrontzi and DJ Makala will offer concerts at the fair, and Basque companies will work in the stand of Euskadiko Soinuak. Euskadiko Soinuak is a program launched by the Department of Education, Culture and Language Policy of the Basque Government, in partnership with several professional music industries, and with the participation of Etxepare Basque Institute.
