Applications are now open for the different categories of the MIN Awards. Like every year, the Etxepare Basque Institute will be awarding the prize for the best album in Basque. The deadline for submitting nominations is 8 February.
The MIN Awards Awards were launched 16 years ago to draw attention to emerging artists among new audiences, bring music closer to the public and promote creative activity. The Etxepare Basque Institute has been presenting the award for the best album in Basque since 2013, aiming to provide visibility and promote the dissemination of independent music in Basque.
The 16th MIN Awards is open to independent artists and recording labels that released albums, EPs or singles in 2023. For the Best Album in Basque category, entries are open to works published inBasque in 2023. Record labels, music publishers, artists, or management companies can submit their entries through the MIN awards website.
The rules and registration procedures (in Spanish) for the Best Album in Basque category can be reviewed on the MIN Awards website. After the registration period, ending on 8 February, the public will be allowed to cast their vote for the fifteen semi-finalists in each category. In the next phase, the professional jury will choose five albums from of the fifteen nominated by the public. The names of the finalists will be announced at the Public Reading of Nominees.
Previous editions of the MIN Awards have taken place in Pamplona, Burgos, and Palma de Mallorca. The organisers will soon unveil the date and venue for this year´s MIN Awards ceremony, where the winning entries in all categories will be announced.
The awards, organised by Spain’s independent record union, ‘Unión Fonográfica Independiente’, were created in 2009 to highlight artistic creation at national level, cultural diversity, talent and the work of small and medium-sized music companies, as well as to promote independent music at national and international level. In the 16th edition of the MIN awards (2023), the prize for the best record in Basque went to the album ‘Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado Vs Don Condor eta Ñora Alacrán’ by the group Niña Coyote and Chico Tornado.
