Pilar Belzunce, reminded today at the closing of the International Conference dedicated to Eduardo Chillida in Frankfurt

Pilar Belzunce was remembered with affection today at the closure of the International Conference devoted to Eduardo Chillida at the Goethe Universität in Frankfurt. At the closing ceremony, Mari Jose Olaziregi, director for the Promotion and Dissemination of the Basque Language and responsibe for the universities area at the Etxepare Basque Institute, expressed the condolences to her family in the name of the Institute, and highlighted the relevance of Chillida´s wife. “There is no better way of honouring the memories of Pilar Belzunce and Eduardo Chillida than promoting the investigation and academic knowledge of his work worldwide”, Olaziregi said.

The conference Form-Materia-Space: Chillida and his Contemporaries, held from July 3 to 5, has been one of the most relevant congresses dedicated to the Basque artist. It was been organized by the Goethe Universität following the creation of the Eduardo Chillida Chair, set up along with the Etxepare Basque Institute, and in collaboration with Jon Wood (Henry Moore Institute, Leeds), Thomas Kirchner (Deutsches Forum für Kunstgeschichte) y la Asociación Carl Justi-Vereinigung (Dresde). The program has reconsidered the prevailing intepretations of Chillida´s work, based on his own statements; therefore, the conference has gathered in Frankfurt a relevant group of first level international experts. The organizers also mean to publish all the lectures.
