MUNTREF: Ivan Gómez Gutiérrez

´La caja y el secreto´ (‘The box and the secret’) by Ivan Gómez Gutiérrez is a project curated by Helga Massetani Piemonte as part of a new edition of the EAS - EZE programme.

This audiovisual project explores explores the relationship between care and conservation, drawing on the installations and contents of Gordailua, the center for Heritage Collections of movable property in Gipuzkoa, Basque Country.

Through the audiovisual piece and accompanying stories, Ivan Gómez Gutiérrez offers an anthropological reflection with a poetic tone, inviting us to question our relationships with the environment and its inhabitants. The work expresses concern for what should endure over time and highlights what deserves our care, attention, and space (both physical and emotional).

‘La caja y el secreto’ is on display from 26 October 2024 to 16 February 2025 at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo MUNTREF (Museos de la Universidad Nacional de Tres de Febrero), in Buenos Aires.

Iván Goméz Gutiérrez

Iván Gómez Gutiérrez´s practice increasingly explores the relationships between images, objects, spaces, and people. His work hybrids various disciplines focused on the concept of ‘the between’ and different approaches to it. The artist investigates this notion through themes like memory, experience, technique, and sustainability, utilizing media such as film, artistic practice, curation, and writing.

EAS – EZE

EAS - EZE takes its name from the airport codes of San Sebastian (Basque Country) and Buenos Aires (Argentina). The programme aims to encourage artistic research and production, support artist promotion, and enhance the international mobility of artists.

Promoted by Bitamine – a space for artistic, cultural and social research on the border between the Spanish and French Basque Country – the EAS - EZE programme offers a comprehensive grant. Beneficiaries can present their work in Buenos Aires with support from MUNTREF, a key institution in the local artistic and academic community. Selection occurs through an open call for artistic research projects aimed at artists based in the Basque Country.

As part of this program, Ivan Gómez Gutiérrez will conduct his artistic residency in Buenos Aires from October 23 to November 5 and will present his work at the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo del MUNTREF.

EAS - EZE is held annually through the support of the Etxepare Basque Institute, the Basque Government´s Department of Culture, the Department of Culture of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the Contemporary Art Centre of the Museum Network of the Tres de Febrero National University (MUNTREF) and the Basque Government Delegation to Mercosur. Support this year also comes from the Irun City Council Department of Culture.
