To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Lehendakari Jose Antonio Agirre’s exile in Berlin, several renewed international organizations have organized a complete commemorative program that was presented on March 7 in Bilbao. They will organize an international conference, between March and June of 2016 in Reno, Berlin and New York; on the other hand, the Euskal Etxea (Basque Club) of Berlin has organized  several activities from May 31 to June 2 in the German city.

The academic conference “The International Legacy of Lehendakari Jose Antonio Agirre’s Government” has been organized and financed by the Etxepare Basque Institute and the William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies of the University of Nevada, Reno, and also has the help and participation of Agirre Lehendakaria Center and the General Secretary of the External Action in the Basque Government, with the collaboration of Mikel Laboa Chair in the University of the Basque Country.

The academic responsibles for this triple conference are the codirector of the William. A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies, Xabier Irujo; the director for the Director for the Promotion and Dissemination of Basque Language of the Etxepare Basque Institute, Mari Jose Olaziregi; and Carsten Sinner of Leipzig’s University. The program aims to analyze the European dimension of Agirre and to recognize his contribution to the European construction. This is the most important academic conference ever held on the importance and the figure of Antonio Agirre, and it will be a high level event, not only because of the quality of the speakers, but also because of the variety of topics that will be analyzed.
