This year the program of the Jon Bilbao Chair at the University of Nevada Reno will focus on the figure Nestor Basterretxea, one of the most significant Basque artists of the 20th century. This year marks the centenary of his birth.
On this occasion the guest lecturer will be Katrin Alberdi, a graduate in Fine Arts and PhD from the University of the Basque Country. With more than 10 years of experience in the conservation department at the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum, she has developed a comprehensive conservation plan for Nestor Basterretxea’s artistic work.
Coinciding with the programming of the Reno Tahoe International Art Show, Alberdi will participate in a panel discussion on September 14 at the Reno Convention Center, which will revolve around the figure and trajectory of Basterretxea, who lived in Reno and has two works in public spaces in this city.
On September 16, she will give a lecture on the restoration of Nestor Basterretxea´s work at the University of Nevada Reno.
More than 6000 artists gather at the RTIA Show, one of the largest art exhibitions in the United States. In this edition, Basque artists will have an extraordinary prominence. In addition to having a special stand to show their work, the opening and closing ceremonies will be dedicated to Basque artists.
