"Glayíos/Oihuak": Basque groups in Asturias
2014/12/26
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The Etxepare Basque Institute has organized, together with Ixuxú Asturies-Euskal Herria Elkartea an initiative that will allow Basque music groups to give concerts at the Whippoorwill Concert Hall of Oviedo. The Glayíos / Oihuak project proposes a series of concerts during 2015 which aims to support Asturian and Basque bands outside their territories.
The cycle will begin on January 31. It is the first part of an initiative that will bring together ten leading groups (five Asturian, five Basque) and exchange them to take advantage of the relevance that they have at their territories.
The asturian group Skama la Redeand the ska group form Donostia Skakeitan will open the cycle to present their new works, Avante and Orekariak. After that, four more concerts will be performed -in March, May, September and November-, which will offer such diverse styles as rock, punk, fusion and electronica. After the spring, groups of Asturias will perform at Euskal Herria.
Glayíos / Oihuak wants to transmit some values such as promoting linguistic diversity or giving equal and transparent treatment to bands and organizers. In short, this is an innovative project that, in times of systemic crisis, seeks to promote new cultural management models.
