The International Board on Books for Young People, IBBY, has announced 62 nominations from 33 countries for the 2022 Hans Christian Andersen Awards. Among them is the Basque illustrator Elena Odriozola. The proposal has been made by the OEPLI – The Spanish Organisation for Children’s and Young Adults’ Books – in collaboration with Galtzagorri and with support from the Etxepare Basque Institute. Catalan writer Jordi Sierra i Fabra is also among the candidates for the 2022 awards.

The Andersen Prize is the most important award in the field of children´s and young adults´ literature. It is not the first time that Odriozola is a candidate. This year, for example, in addition to being selected, the Basque illustrator was a finalist. In fact, IBBY presents the list of candidates, creates a shortlist and announces the finalists. The next Andersen Awards will be presented in 2022. The list of finalists will be announced in January 2022 and the winners’ names will be announced in March-April at the Bologna Fair.

Once again, Galtzagorri Elkartea has presented Elena Odriozola´s candidacy for the Andersen awards, among other reasons because it considers her contribution to children´s and young people´s literature to be essential.
