Thanks to a collaboration between film producer Txintxua Films and the Etxepare Basque Institute, ‘Dantza’ – the third feature film by Basque filmmaker Telmo Esnal – will be shown in 10 cities in Argentina and the USA in April and May this year.

The first Argentinian screening took place on April 21 during the "Entre Fronteras" film festival in Posadas, the capital of Argentina’s Misiones province.  The film Dantza participated in representation of the Basque Country. On April 24th, tomorrow, the film will be screened in La Plata (in the province of Buenos Aires).

On Sunday, April 28, the U.S. tour kicks off in Seattle (Washington), before moving on to Ontario (Oregon) on May 1, and Boise (Idaho) on May 2. The next leg of the tour takes place in California, where the film can be seen in San Francisco on May 3, in Chino on May 5 and in Los Angeles on May 6 before it travels to Reno (Nevada) on May 9, New York on May 11, and Washington on May 17.

The collaboration of the Etxepare Basque Institute and the coordination of the Basque Cultural Centers in the USA were instrumental in organizing the tour, which includes presentations and talks by ‘Dantza’ director Telmo Esnal and dancer Gari Otamendi, the leading character in the film.

‘Dantza’ is an ode to tradition, to the Basque Country and its people, myths and customs. The artist Koldobika Jauregi was in charge of the aesthetic and visual side of this ambitious, creative project, while the Basque folklorist and researcher Juan Antonio Urbeltz was responsible for coordinating and supervising the choreography.

The film, which premiered last September at the San Sebastian Film Festival, began its international tour at the recent Festival du Cinema Espagnol de Nantes (France) where it was enthusiastically received by the public. In the coming months, ‘Dantza’ is also due to take part in several other international festivals.
