Call for Etxepare-LABORAL Kutxa Translation Award is now open
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
Entry for the Etxepare-LABORAL Kutxa Translation Award, organized by the Etxepare Basque Institute and LABORAL Kutxa, will be open until June 26. Understanding that translation is a bridge to the wider world and a chance to shine an international spotlight on the work of Basque authors, the award is given for a published translation of a literary work originally written in Basque.
International translators and publishers who meet the following requirements may apply for the award: the book must be written originally in Basque and the translation must have been published in 2019. As for the application, the translator him/herself, the publishing house or any other agent from the literature or translation field can apply.
The prize will be worth 4,000 euros. The publisher and translator will each receive half that amount. In fact, the award will not only be based on the quality of the translation itself, but also on the promotion by the publishing house. In addition to the prize money, the winners will receive up to 2,000 euros to attend the award ceremony and continue with the promotional strategy in the country of publication (presentations, events, publicity campaigns, media interviews…).
The award ceremony will be held around the International Translator’s Day (September 30), on the date and place to be determined by the Etxepare Basque Institute and LABORAL Kutxa. The jury will be made up of professionals in the field of translation, the Etxepare Basque Institute and LABORAL Kutxa.
