Basque band Berri Txarrak is coming to the end of their music career. As they have been on an international tour this year to celebrate their upcoming retirement, the Etxepare Basque Institute decided to produce a series of videos to show how the band has been instrumental in disseminating the Basque language abroad.
The Basque rock band is well known for internationalizing Basque culture through music, particularly the Basque language. In fact, the Etxepare Basque Institute Music Award, which they won in 2017 at the Euskal Herriko Musika Bulegoa awards, specifically rewards artists actively involved in promoting Basque culture abroad.
As Berri Txarrak’s 25-year career draws to a close, the band will play a farewell concert at the Navarra Arena pavilion, Pamplona, on November 23 as a final tribute. Since spring, however, they have been on an international tour, taking them across several continents. The Etxepare Basque Institute produced five short videos that portray how the band has promoted Basque culture abroad.
In the first video, Berri Txarrak fans talk about how they became interested in Basque culture when they heard them play on the United States leg of the tour.
