Basque. Playlist. #17 – EZEZEZ
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
EZEZEZ (‘no no no’ in Euskara) is a band created by Unai Madariaga in 2022. The synergy cultivated between Madariaga and Eneko Ajangiz during the production of Madariaga’s debut solo album (The Living and Dying of a Man, 2021) laid the foundation for the formation of the group.
Later on, Álvaro Olaetxea (Capsula) and Mikel Irigoyen joined in. October 2022 saw the release of the quartet´s first album, ‘When I Think Something is Funny I Smile´, featuring 14 songs. In November 2023, the band launched their second LP, ´Katuzaldia´, made up of 12 tracks composed entirely in Euskara.
The band´s music is vibrant energy and irony, self-described as a “compact and coherent blend of sounds”. Their latest work combines ironic lyrics with lively and diverse melodies, blending nuances and sounds of punk and rock. Through their music, they navigate between 70s psychedelia and 90s grunge, drawing inspiration from bands like Viagra Boys, Parquet Courts, and Idles. The sound of their most recent album is a fusion of these influences, blending their distinctive melodies.
The post-punk rock group has solidified their presence in the Basque music scene through their dynamic and entertaining live shows. Their latest LP has further established their standing within the local music scene.
