The ceremony for the 9th edition of the Independent Music Awards was held last night at the Teatro Nuevo Apolo in Madrid. The Basque representation confirmed the quality of our music: Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado won the Etxepare Award for the Best Album in Euskera and Belako won the Best Live Performance Award in a ceremony that since 2009 recognizes the creation, diversity and artistic quality of independent productions.

After the public vote and the selection of the jury, five groups were nominated for the award supported by the Etxepare Basque Institute: Kepa Junkera eta Sorginak, Zea Mays, Izaro, Gatibu, and Niña Coyote eta Chico Tornado. The award went to the latter for their latest album "Eate". Basque music also came to the stage, with a closing performance by Izaro and Gatibu.

The Basque group Belako also did well at the gala. Nominated in four categories, Belako took the Best Live Performance Award.  “Lluvia y truenos”, the album by McEnroe from Getxo and The New Raemon, won the Best Pop Album Award. In this edition other Basque groups were also nominated for awards, such as WAS (Best Electronic Recording and Best Live Performance).

But the stars of the show were definitely Triangulo de Amor Bizarro: the quartet won four of the seven awards they had been nominated for, with their album "Salve Discordia", including Best Album of the Year.
