Basque artists Ainara LeGardon, Jaime de los Ríos and Eneko Gil, chosen for artistic residences in Wroclaw
Euskara. Kultura. Mundura.
The music performer Ainara LeGardon, the media-artist Jaime de los Rios and the dancer Eneko Gil will have the opportunity to make artistic residencies this Summer in Wroclaw, thanks to the second call launched by DSS2016EU and the Etxepare Basque Institute.
This call aims to promote mobility, intercultural dialogue and cooperation, and is open to different artistic disciplines as performing-arts, music, literature, visual arts or audiovisuals, as well as to multidisciplinary proposals, as long as they are projects related to the objectives of the European Capitals of Culture Wroclaw and Donostia 2016.
The three creators chosen on this year’s call, have presented their projects to the press today. The musician Ainara LeGardon will collect sounds of Donostia and Wroclaw to create a sound script, which later will perform and record. Jaime de los Ríos will create a digital, collective and open bridge between the two cities, based on the social platform Twitter. And the dancer Eneko Gil will embody the life and work of the writer, painter and graphic artist Schulz, in a solo that combines traditional and contemporary Basque dance.
Xabier Paya, director of Donostia 2016 and Aizpea Goenaga, director of the Etxepare Basque Institute have accompanied the three artists in the presentation; and both have stressed the importance of these trips back and forth to open new productions for Basque creation, as it is already happening with the artists who participated in the program last year.
In addition, the artists selected in the residency program this year and the artists who developed their proposals in the 2014 edition - Matxalen de Pedro, Maialen Sarasua and Goiatz Labandibar- will participate with their projects in the BASK festival in Wroclaw, organized by Wroclaw 2016 with the support of the Donostia 2016 Hazitegiak program, in July.
