Basque representation at the International Mother Language Day in Chicago

The University of Chicago will host three lectures about Basque language, “Celebrating Basque on International Mother Language Day”, to celebrate the International Mother Language Day on February 21. Experts Xabier Irujo, Karlos Arregi and Amaia Gabantxo will talk about dialectology, poetry and Basque language survival. The program has been organized by the Euskadi Delegation in the United States with the support of Etxepare Basque Institute.

Karlos Arregi will speak about Basque dialectology in“Linguistic diversity in the Basque Country”.The other two lectures will be “A Hundred Years of Basque Poetry, A Map in 15”by Amaia Gabantxo and “Basque language, a Fight for survival”,by Xabier Irujo.

International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by the Unesco in November 1999 to promote the preservation and protection of all languages used by peoples of the world.
