Aiora Jaka Irizar, teacher at the UPV-EHU and translator, will stay at the University of Leipzig from 27 to 30 April. The IALT of the Universität Leipzig (Institute for applied linguistics and translation) has invited her to participate in the classes and to offer several talks. Among others, she will discuss issues such as the translations by Itxaro Borda or the point of view that had the band Pott on translation and betrayal.

And, for the first time, this year the university has organized the conference "Unterwegs zwischen Kulturen"from April 22 to July 15, and Aiora Jaka will give a talk within the conference: "Die Baskische Literaturgruppe Pott Übersetzung von und ihre Definition als Verrat" (The Basque literature group Pott and their definition of translation as treason). Some other Basque experts have been invited to the event: Miren Ibarluzea, on May 20; Iban Zaldua, on June 3; and Mari Jose Olaziregi, on July 1.

The speakers will talk about current translation and literature. They will discuss on intercultural exchanges and ideologies, and power relations behind literary systems.

Miren Ibarluzea will talk about the institutionalization of Basque literature and will offer a practical workshop on orality to students. Iban Zaldua will explain the decisions you have to make as a writer, based in his essay “Ese idioma raro y poderoso” (Lengua de trapo, 2012). The writer will also take part in a reading of the German translation of his most famous stories. Finally, Mari Jose Olaziregi will talk about the influence of Basque culture and literature worldwide.

Along with the Basques guests, some experts and translators as Jaume Cabré or Gemma Gill will also participate in the conference.
